The Deal
Arrive in the captivating capital city of Helsinki. Begin your exploration of Helsinki by viewing Senate Square, home to the grand Helsinki Cathedral and Government Palace, housing the offices of the Prime Minister and other government officials. Continue to Esplanade Park, a green oasis in the city center, lined with elegant shops, cafes, and restaurants. The next morning, transfer to the airport for your flight to Ivalo, nestled in the heart of Finnish Lapland. On arrival, take an orientation tour of the village. View local shops and handicraft stores, selling authentic Sami souvenirs, along with handcrafted reindeer leather goods.
Next, begin with a scenic drive through the pristine landscapes of the Arctic wilderness toward Kirkenes, Norway. Along the way, tour the Sami Museum and Nature Center Siida. Gain insight into Sami life, their nomadic herding traditions, language, and handicrafts. Proceed with a tour of the Nature Center, which focuses on Lapland's unique Arctic environment. Have lunch at a local restaurant before continuing the journey. Then, travel back in time and explore the rich history of Kirkenes, a town that played a pivotal role during World War II. Its strategic location near the Russian border, made it a key German stronghold, resulting in over 300 Soviet air raids. As you walk through the town, view remnants of wartime structures and learn about life under German control. Next, visit a World War II bomb shelter.
Lastly, head to the airport for your morning flight to Oslo, Norway's innovative capital. Arrive and transfer to the hotel. A panoramic drive through Oslo reveals its striking architecture. Begin at the magnificent National Theater, one of Norway's most prominent venues for performance of dramatic arts. The next day, visit the National Museum, Norway's largest art museum and explore a rich collection spanning classical to contemporary works. Admire iconic pieces like Edvard Munch's The Scream, alongside Norwegian design, architecture, and visual arts. Spend the afternoon at leisure. Tonight, bid farewell to your Tour Manager during dinner at a local restaurant.
